Invest in a Place Where Teens Belong

In a community as close-knit as ours, it’s easy to assume our teens are doing just fine—but many are quietly struggling. Depression, anxiety, substance use, and isolation are on the rise. Too often, these challenges lead to school disengagement, housing instability, or interaction with law enforcement. And in Homer, teens don’t have a dedicated space designed to meet their needs.

The data paints a clear picture: during the 2021–2022 school year, 315 students in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District were identified as experiencing homelessness, with over 100 living unsheltered or in hotels and motels (U.S. Department of Education, 2024). These numbers reflect a lack of safe, consistent environments for teens to gather, access support, and simply be themselves.

The Teen Community Resource Center is our answer to that need. More than a building, it will be a place where teens can access counseling, peer support, a computer lab for schoolwork and job applications, and on-site laundry and showers—along with welcoming spaces for art, conversation, and connection. It will serve as a vital hub for after-school programming and wraparound services, giving teens a safe, inclusive environment to grow, explore, and thrive.

This is where your support makes all the difference. Together, we can open the doors to something transformative.
